Australia Post roll out electric delivery vehicles in Ingleburn

Australia Post has introduced a fleet of electric vehicles to service the Ingleburn area as part of a pilot program before a national rollout.
Four three-wheeled electric delivery vehicles (eDV) and seven electric pushbikes will be used to deliver mail in the area.
Ingleburn is one of 13 areas across the country to use the vehicles following the rollout of 100 eDVs in Newcastle last year.
Australia Post has since bought 1000 more vehicles which will be on the road before the end of the year.
An Australia Post spokeswoman said the pilot program would test the vehicles across a range of environments.
“As part of our pilot program, we selected 13 sites across Australia to see how the vehicles work in areas with different conditions, terrains and needs,” she said.
“Ingleburn features a number of different conditions and terrains with residential and commercial zones, and offers a good opportunity for us to test the eDVs’ versatility. We may consider additional sites following the results of the pilot.
“Part of our program is to match the route with the most appropriate vehicle, so where it is best suited, motorbikes will still be part of our fleet.”
Australia Post Ingleburn delivery manager Jamie Pepper said the new vehicles were turning heads among local residents.
“Our new fleet of electric vehicles have more carrying capacity, lockable compartments and a host of features to keep our posties safe,” Mr Pepper said.
“They’re more visible on the roads, more stable, and have increased rider protection and lower on-road speeds, all of which reduces our people’s exposure to incidents and serious accidents.
“They’re also much quieter which means they’re safer around dogs as the posties ride through the streets.”
