A serious truck crash trapped and injured six people including three children, with one man sustaining life-threatening injuries after the vehicle crashed with a ute at Appin.
Authorities were called to reports of a serious crash on Appin Rd near Kings Falls Bridge about 4pm on Thursday.
The collision resulted in two men in their 30s, a woman and three children being trapped in the crash, which has also forced road closures and major delays.
After being released from the wreckage, NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the trapped occupants at the scene before flying the men to hospital.
The men sustained serious head and leg injuries, with the ute driver transported in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries to Liverpool Hospital, while the truck driver was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.
The woman and three children sustained minor injuries and were also taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Traffic NSW reports Appin Rd has been closed in both directions between Wilton Rd and M1 Princes Highway spanning 20km, with police, ambulance and crash investigations units on site.
Diversions are expected to remain in place for some time while the incident is being resolved.
Drivers are being warned to expect significant delays as cars are redirected via Wilton, Macarthur and Picton roads; while trucks are being diverted at Campbelltown to the Hume Highway and Picton Rd to the Princes Highway at Cataract.
