A woman accused of spitting on a teenage McDonald’s worker, later saying she was infected with coronavirus, in bizarre scenes has been granted to bail to attend a residential rehabilitation facility.
Kelly Hogan, 51, has been remanded in custody for 26 days since being charged with assault, destroying property and coughing with COVID-19. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Police say the unemployed St Andrews woman became aggressive when she couldn’t pay for her order at Eagle Vale McDonald’s on April 29, which led to her spitting on an 18-year-old girl working at the counter. She is accused of also shattering a glass door at the fast-food restaurant.
Following her arrest, she allegedly told police she had coronavirus and coughed in the face of a senior male constable.
Magistrate Ian Guy, who noted Hogan had a “incredibly long” criminal record and that the allegations were “very disturbing”, granted bail on the condition she participates in the rehabilitation program.
The matter will return to the same court next month.
