A motorway connecting the Macarthur region to Box Hill via Western Sydney and upgrades to Badgally Rd are among the projects set for funding when the State Government announces its Budget next week.
The government has ploughed money into a range of projects across the region including $153 million for Western Sydney growth roads including the Narellan Rd upgrade.
Just over $2 million will be earmarked for planning the M9 Outer Orbital which would run from the Macarthur region through Penrith and up north to Box Hill.
The Appin Rd widening will get $4.5 million allocated on top of federal funding and developer contributions.
Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson said the projects were important commitments to the region.
“It’s much needed infrastructure that’s been talked about for a long time by former governments,” he said.
Mr Patterson said projects such as a Badgally Rd upgrade would work in with roads such as the soon to be opened Gregory Hills Drive extension.
“Every road complements its neighbour and this is all about the networking being planned properly and getting built,” he said.
Mr Patterson said he anticipated money would also be announced in the budget for the Spring Farm to Menangle link road.
NSW Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres said $648 million combined federal and state money would go into roads surrounding the Western Sydney Airport.
“It includes the first stage of The Northern Rd upgrade between Camden Valley Way and Peter Brock Drive,” he said.
Campbelltown state Labor MP Greg Warren said he welcomed the announcements but called on the government to release a timetable for the projects.
“These concepts are absolutely vital and I support them,” he said.
“But I don’t like it when I see planning money, I want to see a solid commitment in writing on when these projects would get done, we need to see a timeline with this funding.
“Look at the Spring Farm link road, we heard about planning money for that but we haven’t seen anything since.”
Mr Warren said the $4.5 million allocation to the Appin Rd widening was good news for local residents but was dismayed by the $5 million commitment from the Federal Government for 2017-18.
“They’ve promised $50 million but that hasn’t been mapped out in the forward estimates so I am concerned about that,” he said.
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet will bring down the Budget next Tuesday evening.
