Tia Brennen is just 10-years-old, but this Mother’s Day she will give presents to not one, but dozens of Mums.

The Minto resident is yet to reach high school but has already founded her own charity, and her latest project will give back to local Mums receiving cancer treatment.

Mum Clarissa said Tia had been inspired by a family friend’s fight with breast cancer, and wanted to take the burden off those whose loved ones were receiving expensive treatment.

“It’s a Mother’s Day project which she has called Mother’s Day smiles; her goal is to put together 50 gift baskets to give to the Macathur Cancer Therapy Centre at Campbelltown Hospital,” she said.

“One of our best friends has been going through breast cancer and we’ve lost a few family members to cancer too so it’s something that’s very closer to Tia.

“She came up with this to take the edge off for families going through cancer treatment, and to remind these women how brave they are.”

Mrs Brennen said Tia had been dropping off letters in stores, speaking to residents and putting up signs to encourage donations, and has so far collected more than 100 items.

She also makes and sells lip balms to raise money to buy gifts, and has used some of her own pocket money for the project.

“She said to me she doesn’t want families to worry about not being able to afford Mother’s Day presents,” Mrs Brennen said.

“She thinks kids can make a difference and she thrives ion community work, she just wants to do her part.”

The cut-off date for donations is May 9.

Drop off zones for donations include Eagle Vale Marketplace Centre Management, Wizard of Oz Funland Leumeah and Grilled Macarthur Square
