THANK you to our fabulous angels across the Macarthur region who have performed good deeds and wonderful acts of kindness to make #DoSomethingDay a great success.

Campbelltown’s Flowers a Bunch florist Georgina Abdulnour is one of the kind-hearted residents who happily volunteered to take part in the Macarthur Chronicle’s initiative.

She arranged for a beautiful bunch of fresh flowers to be presented to patients and staff at the Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre.

Ms Abdulnour said she hoped the flowers would brighten the day of people being treated for cancer and for the staff who are caring for them.

“I love making people happy. It was beautiful,’’ she said.

The #DoSomethingDay initiative encouraged people to perform a nice act or deed to brighten up another’s day.

In Wollondilly, Mayor Simon Landow said it was wonderful to see the efforts of volunteers helping the clean up in Picton on #DoSomethingDay and every day since the floods.

Picton Chamber of Commerce president Aaron Greffenius said it was Do Something Week in Picton following the floods.

“I know what a great community we live in and everybody us super appreciative of the efforts of the volunteers,’’ he said.

Waminda Bakery also jumped at the opportunity to do something nice for Campbelltown train commuters on #DoSomethingDay this morning.

Staff members Kirsty Hutchinson and Danielle Long handed out Waminda’s famous sausage rolls and pies for free, giving residents a tasty hot breakfast as they headed off to work or school.

Commuters and station staff were surprised and delighted to receive a tasty warm treat on a cold winter’s morning.

Broughton Anglican College Year 10 students also took part in #DoSomethingDay and volunteered their time to give younger students a helping hand with mathematics in a one on one tutoring session this morning.

Community Development Officer Ruth Ewing said 28 Year 3 students participated in the class, which will continue to run once a week for the rest of the year.

“It’s an opportunity for Year 3 students to be tutored in maths one on one by senior students,” she said.

“It also helps senior students to develop leadership skills and accountability.

“It’s a great way for older students to help younger students learn in areas that they’re struggling and they are good role models for the kids to look up to.”

Ms Ewing said the program had been well received, with both older and younger students enjoying the chance to interact and help each other.

Campbelltown Meals on Wheels volunteers also took part in #DoSomethingDay as did the selfless volunteers from Lifeline Macarthur.
