YOUNG footballer Daniel Lual draws inspiration from some of the game’s greatest legends whenever he sets foot on the field.

He admires Cristiano Ronaldo and Dele Alli — players who faced incredible challenges in their young lives but rose to greatness through the ranks of international football.

“At home, it’s me, my mum and my little siblings,” Daniel, 13, of Bonnyrigg, said. “Ronaldo had a hard life too — his father passed away; and Dele grew up with his teammates, not his family.”

Daniel, who is of South Sudanese and Egyptian descent, made the Metro South representative team for the first time this year.

“I’ve been playing for six years,” Daniel said. “I love everything about it.”

The teenager, who plays on the left wing, aspires to a career in football in Europe like his idols.

“I want to keep doing what I love doing,” Daniel said. “Football is great; it’s enjoyable and so fun to play.”

Daniel is this week’s NewsLocal Local Sports Star nominee.
