Don't miss out on the headlines from Local Sports Stars. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The true beauty of sport isn’t strictly limited to the on-field action.
Sport has the power to bring people together unlike anything else.
This concept is one that the Rouse Hill Rams Cricket Club embraced last month when players traded their regular colours for striking pink caps to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.
Many of the club’s sides took part in a Pink Stumps day last month with the aim of raising $2000 for the breast cancer support and awareness charity.
Rouse Hill Rams Cricket Club president John Kozumplik said he was proud of the club for backing the event.
“The ground was covered in pink all day,” Mr Kozumplik said.
“Considering we hadn’t done it for a while, we definitely wanted to do something this season. I’m really pleased that the kids were really up for it and happy about getting back on board.
“Hopefully we’re looking at raising about $2000 and then build it up over the next few years.”
A link to the donation website can be found on the club’s Facebook page.
The Rams have been nominated for aYoung Sporting Spirit Team award.
The Local Sports Stars competition will run until August 31.
Prizes will be awarded to talented athletes aged 18 and under across four categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual and Young Sporting Spirit Team. We also have an open-age Service To Sport category for people who are the heart and soul of their sports clubs and codes.
