Tahlia Geelan dominates at Australian Gymnastics Championships for second-straight year
Finishing first at one national championships just isn’t enough for elite trampoline gymnastics star Tahlia Geelan.

Even national champions still get nervous.
Twelve-year-old trampolinist Tahlia Geelan is one of the country’s top young gymnasts, having finished first in the youth under-13 category at the Australian Gymnastics Championships two years in a row.
However despite all her success at the elite level, the Glenhaven resident said she still gets plenty of nerves before a big competition.
“At National Club Championships in September 2018, I was trying a new routine which included four double somersaults and three all together in the beginning of the routine,” Tahlia said.
“It was pretty scary.”
Being the champion she is, Tahlia managed to put her fears aside to nail the routine and achieve first place.
Not content with that, she continued to challenge herself over the following months, claiming state and national championships and even travelling to New Zealand with Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre for an overseas competition.
“It was a small but great experience,” Tahlia said.
“We learned how to deal with time differences, different equipment, different judges etc.
“I didn’t perform my best as I had been sick and not able to train. I don’t know how but I still managed to get a first place in both events.”
Tahlia is a Hills Shire Times Junior Sports Star nominee for the 2019 Local Sports Stars competition.
The awards recognise and reward talented athletes across a wide range of sports, as well as the hardworking volunteers who keep associations running each weekend.
