South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club’s under-12 male surf team is riding a wave of success at the highest level of nippers.
The three-time back-to-back state champions took home gold at the NSW Surf Life Saving titles last month.
Head coach and manager Colin Marshall described this as a “monumental achievement”.
“This year they won with the lowest aggregate points (22) of the three championships years — which means they have become more dominant as time goes on,” Marshall said.
The team of four — Jaiden Marshall, Maximo Diblasio, Frederick Mravec and Charlie White — have been competing and training together for the past three years.
“Surf as a sport is very unpredictable,” Marshall said. “So to be top team three years running really shows the dominance of this team.”
He said with two more years left in the nipper grades the South Maroubra quartet, who are all accomplished swimmers, has the talent to remain at the top.
“As their coach I believe they will go on through nippers and likely retain the title which will see them with five titles.”

On May 18 the team will take part in the Bondi-Watson Bay swim as the youngest team to attempt this event.
“With legendary long distance swimmer Michael Murphy as the teams manager there is no shortage of high level help,” Marshall said.
The boys have been nominated for the Local Sports Star Awards Team of Excellence category.
