Ben Stevanovic was the A Grade captain of a Holy Cross college side that made history as part of a clean sweep of this year’s Metropolitan Catholic Colleges Touch Football competition.
But that is just the latest in a long line of tremendous achievements that have littered the 17 year-old’s young career.
The title marked four undefeated years for the school’s A Grade squad.
“Having the whole school looking on, it was definitely a special moment,” said Ben, who first took up touch at the age of 10 as a way to keep active between rugby league seasons.
“I’ve played every single season since.
“Footwork and speed are must-haves in both sports, so playing definitely makes things easier for me when it comes to rugby league.”
Ben was a natural from the get-go and after making his state representative debut in just his second year, he soon found himself captaining NSW and making the national team.
“I first captained NSW around 14/15 and first played for Australia when I was 16.
“It was a tremendous achievement for me and something I’ve been very lucky to be involved with.”
When Ben’s not carving it up for Australia on the touch footy field, he can be found doing the same for the Balmain Tigers SG Ball side.
Ben has been nominated for NewsLocal’s Junior Sports Star-Individual award.
