Gabriel Lim is truly a triple-threat.
The Year 8 student from Holy Cross College is an elite sportsman whose ability in the pool is matched only by his success is music and academia.
Gabriel dominated at this year’s school swimming carnival, breaking two school records that had been held for more than a decade.
His 31.31 time in the 50m backstroke shattered the old record by more than a second while the old 50m freestyle record 27.22 was eclipsed by Gabriel’s lightning-quick 26.94.
Gabriel’s superb performance saw him declared the U/14s Champion Age Swimmer for 2017.
However, the true measure of Gabriel’s dedication as an athlete can be seen in his achievement and commitment to his pursuits outside the pool, in particular his music.
The 13 year-old Ryde resident is an accomplished grade nine violinist who has made time to practice for at least an hour every day for the last 10 years.
Gabriel says that his dedication to mastering the violin has given him an extra “edge” for his athletic pursuits.
“I like the discipline that the violin gives you,” he said.
“It also gives me the opportunity to travel the world, which is one of my dreams.”
Gabriel Lim is this week’s nominee for NewsLocal’s Young Sporting Spirit Individual award.
