In today’s global cricketing landscape, gaining international experience at an early age has never been more important.

Thirteen of Northern District Cricket Club’s brightest young prospects are set to gain that vital overseas exposure after being selected for a special two-week tour of India.

Run in conjunction with the Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai and Hills District Cricket Coaches Association, the tour will see the under-15 representative squad play seven matches across Mumbai, Jaipur and New Delhi against state, district and academy teams.

The tour will see the squad go up against a number of Indian state, district and academy teams.

“One of the objectives of these development tours is to provide high-level coaching and to expose talented young players to challenging conditions overseas,” association president Bruce Wood said.

“This is with a view to significantly improving their skills and experience as a lead in to the NDCC’s under-16 A.W. Green Shield team. Accordingly, we select the majority of players from the NDCC junior development academies and Green Shield team, identifying players with the potential to be successful at Green Shield level.

The tour will provide the team with vital overseas exposure and experience.

“As the coaches association is a major driver behind these tours, we also select promising players who have regularly attended our school holiday cricket clinics and off-season development programs in recent years.”

Wood added that the tour will be a “life-changing experience” for everyone involved.

The under-15 tour team are a nominee for the Northern District Times’ Local Sports Star awards.

Nominations are now open for the Local Sports Stars awards for talented youngsters aged 18 and under.
