Longevity is rare to find in junior sport but one Thornleigh Baseball little league team has cracked the code to sustained success, winning five grand finals in nine years together.
Longevity is rare to find in junior sport but one Thornleigh Baseball team has cracked the code to sustained success.
Thornleigh’s little league seniors (under-16) division 2 team have been together for nine years, winning an incredible five of seven grand finals in that time.
According to parent Scott Treatt, whose son Hamish is part of the team, their story is “unbelievable.”
“It’s the fact that they have been together for so many years,” Mr Treatt said.
“This team has grown and matured together, and now they have two players who also play for representative sides.
“This year they again won the Gary McKewin Award (for team spirit) at Thornleigh Baseball, being recipients of that award for now three out the last four years.”
At the core of the team’s success is the efforts of coach Clynton Dunlop.
“He is a man dedicated to the team and the development of the children, the sport and the club,” Mr Treatt said.

“The development of the team as a whole is not Clynton’s only tribute. The development of individuals also shows.
“In the present year my son, Hamish, received the club’s Greg O’Connor Award for his long history with the club and showing a positive attitude with his teammates.
“Clynton instilled passion in Hamish, as he does with all the kids, and gave him the skills over the years not only to develop his baseball, but also to mature as a young man and a team player.”
