FAMILIES of players in the under-12 Revesby Heights Hornets cricket team are proud of the way their sons conducted themselves this season.
The team worked hard and supported each other, going into the grand final of the Bankstown District Cricket Association season undefeated.
While they were not able to secure the overall victory, against St Christopher’s, coach Ron Simpson said in the lead-up to the match that it would be a tough game.
“We’ve played them three times and they were all hard yakka games,” he said.
“I said to them halfway through a game they had put in all the hard yakka, now their war cry is ‘hard yakka’.”
The respect the players have for each other has earned them a Local Sports Stars nomination in Junior Sports Star Team category.
When asked their highlights for the season, the boys agreed it was a mix of everyone participating in scoring runs and making it to the grand final.
“We play in the under-12, where we have two boys who are eligible, but there are also eight boys who can play under-11 and two boys who play under-10,” Simpson said. “I have been their coach for this year and it has been one of the most enjoyable years I have had.”
The Local Sports Stars program has four other categories: Junior Sports Stars Individual, Young Sporting Spirit Individual, Young Sporting Spirit Team and Service to Sport.
