Talented young gymnast Michella Ghazi has come a long way since her first competition, where she learned the value of resilience.
The 11-year-old from Casula has been competing in aerobic gymnastics for two years, having been inspired to take the same path as her older sister.
Success has been swift for the youngster, who placed first at this year’s NSW Junior Championships in the level four individual and aerodance group divisions.
Michella also placed second in the aerodance individual category at the 2019 NSW Senior State Championships.
Her confidence has grown by leaps and bounds since performing in her first competition in 2017, where she faced one of her toughest challenges.
“I was performing with my teammate when I made an error on my floor formation. I was so worried I’d ruined it for the both of us.”
Determined to finish strongly, Michella refocused — and it paid off. The pair won gold for their routine.
Michella thanked her coach Patsy Tatian, her friends and, above all, her mum for “making this all happen”.
“She introduced me in aerobics and believed in me every step of the way.”
“My ultimate sporting goal is to be the best I can be and never give up no matter what obstacles comes in my way.”
Michella has been nominated for a Junior Sports Star Individual award. The Local Sports Stars competition is sponsored by Featherdale Wildlife Park and Bankstown Sports.
