A temporary inflatable water park is being considered for Liverpool to provide relief from extreme heat as the warmer months approach.

It comes as a report prepared by Liverpool Council shows the city’s existing aquatic facilities are typically at full capacity when temperatures peak in summer, with “extensive queues” and centres adopting a “one out — one in” policy to maintain pool safety.

The report described a temporary inflatable water play installation as “the most viable short-term approach” to increase water play opportunities in Liverpool.

“As a pilot of this approach, council is currently in the final phases of investigation into the provision of a “pop-up” inflatable water park located on Woodward Park throughout January 2020,” it read.

“This water-park would provide significant additional capacity towards meeting the demand for water-based recreation opportunities in the summer period.”

Liverpool Council will consider options for the service, including whether to fully subsidise such an installation over a period of four weeks in summer or to hire out parkland to a supplier, at its next council meeting on Wednesday, August 28.

Four major parks across the local government area have also been identified as having the potential include water play areas, adding to those already available at Bigge Park and Michael Wenden Leisure Centre.

The report recommends the council endorse the locations, subject to further investigation.

They include Stante Reserve in Middleton Grange, Lighthorse Park in Liverpool, Carnes Hill Recreation Precinct Stage Two and Edmondson Park Town Park, designed and delivered by Frasers.
