He has his eyes on the world number one tennis ranking, and Srijan Singh has already shown he is willing to put in the work to get there.
The St Ives High School student trains around 18 hours a week, and is this week’s North Shore Times Local Sports Star nominee.
Srijan turned 15 in February but two months earlier he was competing at Melbourne Park as part of the December Showdown, which included the finest players from across Australia in the under-14 age group.
However, his career began long before that.
“I started playing at the age of five when I started school,” Srijan said.
“I felt tennis was more challenging. Tennis being an individual sport I am always in control.
“I find tennis technically tough sport and when it came to deciding a sport I would like to play more than others, I chose tennis.”
As well as his coaches and school, Srijan said his family had played a huge role in helping him get to number one in NSW in his age group, and number six nationally.
“There are many people around me who help and guide me, especially my dad who is driving force for me to achieve my dream as well as my mum and little sister who support me by sacrificing their things for my tennis,” he said.
