Dario Kmet has been racking up tournament wins over the last year as he closes in on fulfilling his tennis dreams.

In 2017, the 16 year old from Putney took out the under-16 Newcastle Junior Open and NSW Age competitions before opening 2018 with a victory at the North Shore Junior Open.

He has also been selected to represent NSW at the National School Sport Tennis Championships in Brisbane this week.

“What best describes my personality is ‘out there’,” Dario says.

“What I love is a team environment where each of the players are motivating and pushing each other. I feel a team environment greatly suits my personality as I’m always willing to be around new people and friends and it is probably the best way I learn and have fun.

“I believe this is a great way to succeed in this sport especially as its considered an individual sport.”

Dario is the latest nominee for the Northern District Times Local Sports Stars award.

Prizes will be awarded to athletes aged 18 and under across four categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual and Young Sporting Spirit Team. There is also a Service To Sport category.
