There’s nothing Cameron Howay loves more than baseball.
So imagine his excitement when he was selected as one of just five Australian children to head to Japan in August for the 2019 World Children’s Baseball Fair.
“It is the most exciting thing ever,” the 11-year-old from West Pennant Hills said.
“I am very grateful that Ryde Hawks Baseball Association and Baseball Australia selected me to attend this year.
“I can’t think of anything more exciting than getting to travel overseas to play baseball.”
Held in Fukushima City, the 29th Annual World Children’s Baseball Fair will see young baseballers and softballers from all over the world learn gather to learn from veteran coaches and participate in Japanese culture.
They will also be given a tour of the Olympic venue for baseball and softball, AZUMA Stadium, ahead of next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games.
Cameron can’t wait.
“I am interested in learning about Japanese culture and about their daily lives,” he said.
“I also like sushi, so I’m very excited to try different foods while I’m there.
“Also I’m hoping to make some new friends from different countries.”
Cameron is a Hornsby Advocate Inspiration Award nominee for the 2019 Local Sports Stars competition.
