Blair Overton leads NSW Metro to second place finish at Indoor Cricket National Championships
Inexperience was no match for Blair Overton as he led NSW Metro to a second place finish at the 2019 Indoor Cricket National Championships.
Despite only being in his first year of indoor cricket, Blair Overton has led NSW Metro to a stellar second-place finish at the 2019 Indoor Cricket National Championships in Melbourne.
The 17-year-old from Quakers Hill dominated for NSW Metro throughout the elite competition, guiding his team to a grand final appearance against Victoria on the back of 181 runs and eight wickets.
Although NSW Metro weren’t able to come away with the title, it was still a phenomenal individual tournament for Blair that culminated with him being named in the Australian All-Star team.
Although thrilled with his achievement, Blair said he owed his success to the support of his teammates and family.
“My mates have helped me get through this first year of indoor the best they could,” Blair said.
“My grandparents have supported me through the last few years and have helped me play by funding most of my competitions.
“(Also) my Dad would always love to have a game of cricket out the back when I was younger, which would help grow the love I have for the game to this day.
“I grew up watching him play and if it wasn’t for him I more than likely wouldn’t have grown up watching and playing the sport.”
Blair is a Blacktown Advocate Junior Sports Star nominee for the 2019 Local Sports Stars competition.
The awards recognise and reward talented athletes as well as the hardworking volunteers who keep associations running each weekend.
