It’s full steam ahead on plans for a new ticketless parking system at one of southwest Sydney’s busiest shopping centres. Here are the details on where and when it will be rolled out.

A ticketless parking system is set to be introduced at one of southwest Sydney’s busiest shopping centres ahead of Christmas.

An application by Scentre Group — the owner and operator of Westfield stores — to overhaul its ticketed system at Westfield Liverpool was approved earlier this month, with a spokeswoman confirming the new system was expected to go live in late November.

The $2.45 million upgrade will make use of licence plate recognition technology and remove the need for paper tickets.

Scentre Group said its plans to introduce “world-leading ticketless parking technology” to the Liverpool complex were “well advanced”, with the system to be installed in time for the busy Christmas shopping period.

“Making parking as easy as possible for our customers is particularly important to us given approximately 70 per cent of our customers travel to and from our centres by car,” the Scentre Group spokeswoman said.

“We continue to embrace technology and invest in initiatives like ticketless parking to improve the customer journey.

“The new parking management system uses license plate recognition technology to ease congestion and streamline car park entry and exit points.”

Feedback from customers at other Westfield centres where the system was already in place had been “overwhelmingly positive”, the spokeswoman said.

“This investment in ticketless parking technology is the first phase of additional investment Scentre Group has planned for Westfield Liverpool.”

Earlier this year, the company lodged plans to redevelop the shopping centre, proposing a $93 million facelift, which would include an eight-storey commercial office tower and a dining, leisure and entertainment precinct.

“We are unable to provide any further details on this development application at this point in time but will update the community when we are able to,” the spokeswoman said.
