Westfield Liverpool could be getting a facelift if a $93 million proposal for an eight-storey commercial tower and a dining, leisure and entertainment precinct is approved.

An application to redevelop the shopping centre has been lodged by owner and operator Scentre Group and residents are invited to make a submission.

Under the plans, a portion of the existing centre and southern facade fronting Elizabeth Dr would be demolished, a new entrance to the shopping complex built and more parking included.

The proposed tower would include ground-floor retail and a commercial lobby, while the entertainment and leisure precinct would feature restaurants, cafes, shops, a family-friendly tavern and a reconfigured cinema on level three.

The redevelopment is estimated to cost $93 million, according to details on Liverpool Council’s e-planning website.

A Scentre Group spokeswoman said customers and residents were consulted about what was important to them at Westfield Liverpool as part of its “community-led approach to design and planning”.

“They told us they wanted to see new and vibrant dining experiences, upgraded cinema and new leisure offerings.

“So whether that’s catching a movie, entertaining the kids or meeting friends for a meal, it was clear that our customers wanted to enjoy more of these activities at Westfield Liverpool,” the spokeswoman said.

The proposed commercial tower “will provide space for the expanding Liverpool business community” and “cement Westfield Liverpool as a true living centre within the Liverpool CBD”, she said.

The spokeswoman added it was too early to confirm any further details at this stage.

The development application is now on public exhibition and comments are due by February 22.

Liverpool Council is the consent authority and the Sydney Western City Planning Panel has the function of determining the application.
