Western Sydney University would more than double its presence in the Liverpool city centre under new plans to expand its reach in southwest Sydney.
The university’s vice-chancellor and president Barney Glover AO confirmed a “partnered development” close to Liverpool Hospital was the next stage of its focus on the region.
“Western Sydney University is pleased to confirm its plans to significantly expand its already large-scale commitment to delivering world leading education and research for Liverpool,” Professor Glover said.
“Very importantly, we will do so in partnership with locally embedded health, education and research partners.
“By 2023 to 2024 we are set to more than double our existing presence in the Liverpool CBD, in a partnered development close to the city’s hospital.”
Western Sydney University’s first campus in Liverpool — the Ngara Ngura Building on Macquarie St — was officially opened last year by then Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison.
The 10-storey campus was constructed by Liverpool property developers Binah Group.
The university is set to reveal detailed plans for this next development in the new year.
“This is a planned next phase of the extraordinary outcomes we’re already delivering at our Liverpool City campus, the Ngara Ngura Building on Macquarie St at Liverpool, where our nursing, community and social work and broad discipline students are making an unrivalled difference to our region,” Professor Glover said.
The university is one of multiple stakeholders collaborating on the Liverpool Innovation Precinct, which will see Liverpool Hospital redeveloped and a health and academic hub created in the Liverpool CBD.
