Three major universities have signed a Statement of Intent with the NSW Government to deliver the Liverpool Innovation Precinct.

The project is part of the $740 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct, which includes the redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital, announced in the 2018 Budget.

Western Sydney University, University of NSW and the University of Wollongong will partner with the South Western Sydney Local Health District and Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Science to deliver the precinct and attract investment, infrastructure and jobs to the region.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian told the Leader it was “possibly the most exciting thing that’s happened in the region of late”.

“It’s all about jobs for the future. To have three of our best universities sign an agreement to work with the local health district and the Ingham Institute to bring world-class academics and jobs to southwest Sydney is just mind-blowing,” she said.

Ms Berejiklian said Liverpool and the southwest would become a “destination point for the best minds in the world”.

The announcement followed Ms Berejiklian’s second visit to Liverpool Hospital in as many weeks, alongside Holsworthy state Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons.

The seat of Holsworthy has emerged as a key seat ahead of the March election, with Ms Berejiklian also announcing a $17 million investment for up to 250 additional car spaces at Warwick Farm railway station.
