A new 12km walk with stunning views of the Blue Mountains and the Sydney CBD will officially open next year in western Sydney.

Western Sydney Parklands Trust is developing a concept plan for the walk, which will begin adjacent to Middleton Grange in the Liverpool area of the Western Sydney Parklands and wind north to Cecil Hills.

Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2021, with the walk due to open later in the year.

There are a number of proposed entry points, including at Wylde Mountain Bike Trail in Cecil Hills — where a main carpark will be built with amenities for visitors — and off McIver Ave in Middleton Grange.

The Parklands is the largest urban park in Australia, spanning 27 kilometres across 5280ha.

The new walk will add to the existing 60km network of tracks and trails, which feature popular sites including Moonrise Lookout, The Dairy, Plough and Harrow, Sugarloaf Ridge and Lizard Log.

Western Sydney Parklands executive director Suellen Fitzgerald said the positioning of the new walk will highlight the region’s natural beauty.

“Visitors will be able to enjoy incredible views and pause to catch their breath along a number of well-designed resting areas,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

“This walk will be the hugely popular, not only with locals, but visitors from all over Sydney and beyond.”

The parklands’ existing tracks and trails are used by 250,000 people each year with options for people of all abilities, from beginners to advanced bush walkers.

“We are looking forward to adding this Walk to our network of existing tracks and trails to offer another great option to keep fit and healthy while enjoying the Parkland’s stunning natural bushland,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
