Western Sydney Airport has released the latest drone footage from the Badgerys Creek site, giving a behind-the-scenes view of progress made on the mammoth construction project.
The new footage shared exclusively to the Liverpool Leader captures a bird’s eye view of progress of the multi-billion-dollar airport that is set to establish the city’s west as a gateway to the world.
Construction works to date include piling of the terminal basement, which was wrapped up by early August, and the concrete pour for the airport gateway.
At the same time, a new program bringing school kids into the airport – a collaboration with the Royal Aeronautical Society – is helping them gain hands-on experience about aeronautics by designing, constructing and test flying their own model aircraft.
Kingswood High School and Liverpool Boys High School were among the first to take part in the The Kids Engineering Our Skies program at the Western Sydney International Airport (WSIA) Experience Centre in Luddenham.
The program also encourages kids to enter science, technology, engineering, or maths disciplines, by showing the careers which will be available at the airport when it opens.
Western Sydney Airport Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey said Sydney’s new international airport will be a game-changer for the region, creating a new era of jobs and opportunities for decades to come.
“We are committed to empowering the young minds of Western Sydney to take advantage of the thousands of jobs the airport will offer right at their doorstep,” Mr Hickey said.
“Building a greenfield airport in the heart of Western Sydney creates a unique opportunity for students to grow their knowledge of STEM throughout their school life in tandem with the airport’s development.”
The airport is on track to open to international, domestic and air cargo services in late 2026.
