TWO police officers were treated for nausea and irritation to their upper respiratory system after being exposed to an unknown substance at Liverpool Police Station on the weekend.
Specialist police, a hazmat crew and NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to the police station on George St, in Liverpool, shortly before 7pm on Saturday.
Liverpool local area command’s crime manager, Detective Inspector Dean Johnstone, confirmed two officers were taken to Liverpool Hospital for observations and treatment due to exposure to the substance.
They suffered nausea, irritation to their upper respiratory system and eye irritation, he said.
“The substance is currently being analysed by forensic police. Until this is completed, we cannot make any comment,” Det Insp Johnstone said.
“Forensic specialist(s) will determine how the substance will be treated following in depth analysis.”
The police station remained operational while emergency services responded to the situation.
