A young man who allegedly led police on a pursuit through southwest Sydney - days after he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun during a carjacking at a Westfield Parramatta carpark - has fronted court.

At Liverpool Court on Tuesday, Haidar Al Shammary appeared after being charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, destroy or damage property, police pursuit, dangerous driving, possessing an illegal drug and driving during a disqualification period.

Police allege in papers tendered to the court that they attempted to stop the 18 year old when he drove a blue Suzuki on Hoxton Park Rd at Green Valley on Monday shortly after 9.20am.

When the driver allegedly did not stop, a 20-minute pursuit began through Hinchinbrook including South Liverpool Rd and other suburbs in the Liverpool and Fairfield areas.

The pursuit was terminated because of safety concerns before the Suzuki was spotted entering a carpark at Westfield Liverpool on George St, forcing police to block off the shopping centre.

Westfield Liverpool was brought to a standstill after the pursuit.

Mr Al Shammary allegedly fled the car and ran through the mall before being arrested and taken to Liverpool Hospital to be treated for a hand injury. He was released into police custody.

He was refused bail. At court on Tuesday, his family supported him and after the matter was heard, he looked their way and said “I’ll call ya” before being taken back into custody.

No application for bail was made.

The teen also allegedly possessed 34g of cannabis.

Police also allege the Green Valley youth threatened a woman in a carpark with a glock-style firearm at Westfield Parramatta on Friday afternoon before stealing her Suzuki allegedly used in the chase.

Police allege he stole the woman’s Samsung Galaxy Note 9, bank debit card and Medicare card along with the car.

Mr Al Shammary was also charged after allegedly damaging a boom gate at Westfield’s Campbell St carpark.

The matters will return to court on February 21.
