She’s only 12 years old, but already Prestons student Hayley Campbell has made a world of difference to those less fortunate than her.
Each year, Hayley co-ordinates a fundraiser to help raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society, hosting a special Boxing Day breakfast with the help of her grandparents.
Pancakes, bacon and eggs are plated up with a serving of compassion among friends and family, who then donate a sum of money towards the cause.
For her integrity and kindness, Hayley was recently nominated by a teacher for this year’s Fred Hollows Humanity Award, which recognises Year 6 students who demonstrate compassion.
“It came as a bit of a shock to me. I felt really proud,” she said. The idea of the fundraiser came to her four years ago when she decided to put on a Christmas concert to raise money for charity.
This year she plans to introduce something different to her traditional Boxing Day breakfast.
Hayley will be recognised at a presentation ceremony in Sydney later this year.
Nominations are open until Sunday.
