Police catch six drug drivers in southwest Sydney road safety operation

A man allegedly had an ice pipe and an amount of meth in his car and another had a bong when they were picked up by Highway Patrol officers in Sydney’s southwest last week.

A man allegedly had an ice pipe and an amount of meth in his car when he was arrested by Highway Patrol officers during a widespread operation in Sydney’s southwest last week.

The 31-year-old man allegedly tested positive for methamphetamines in a roadside test in Glenfield before a search uncovered the pipe and 1.2g of ice.

The man returned a second positive drug test at Liverpool police station and charges are expected to be laid.

Highway Patrol officers nabbed almost 90 offenders in just 12 hours during a road safety operation across Green Valley and Liverpool last Friday.

Six alleged drug drivers were among those picked up by Liverpool Highway Patrol, Liverpool Proactive Crime Team, the Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad, Dog Unit and POLAIR between 3pm and 3am on May 25.

Officers targeted notorious crime hotspots and allegedly detected several high speed offences, positive drug and alcohol tests, drug possession, outstanding warrants and a laundry list of infringements including defects and licence suspensions.

Another man was allegedly found with a bong in his car after he tested positive to cannabis in a roadside drug test in Heckenberg.

The 18-year-old man tested positive again at Green Valley police station and charges are pending.

A 49-year-old woman allegedly tested positive to methamphetamines in a roadside drug test in Miller.

She tested positive again at Green Valley police station and charges are expected to be laid.

A man and woman both aged 22 had their licences seized and suspended after they were allegedly detected travelling at 130km/h in a 70km/h zone on the Hume Hwy at Warwick Farm.

The fast and furious pair also had their numberplates confiscated and lost six demerit points in addition to a whopping $2384 fine each.

A 29-year-old man with an outstanding warrant was arrested in Busby after police allegedly found him in possession of almost a gram of ice.

Another 29-year-old man was stopped in Miller and checks revealed he also had an outstanding warrant.

The man was arrested and refused bail at Liverpool police station.

A 52-year-old man was stopped in Liverpool after he allegedly did a U-turn at a red traffic light in front of police.

Checks revealed the man had never held a licence and he then provided a positive roadside breath test.

He was arrested and charged after breath analysis returned a low range reading.

A 21-year-old man was stopped in Liverpool after he was found allegedly driving suspended in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

He was issued a court attendance notice for each offence.

The overall operation included 187 breath tests with one low range detection, 17 drug tests with six positive results, 55 infringements, nine defect notices, three licence suspensions, one numberplate confiscation, two warrants, 18 person searches, eight vehicle searches, three move-on notices, one business inspection, three bail compliance checks and three drug detections.
