The first images of the proposed redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital have been released.
The $740 million project is set to transform the hospital, which will form part of a new health and education precinct in the Liverpool CBD.
Masterplanning has already begun, with Sydney firm Fitzpatrick and Partners appointed the masterplanning architects for the project.
The multimillion-dollar investment by the NSW Government will see a comprehensive cancer centre built as well as the expansion of ambulatory care services, neonatal intensive and maternity care, day surgery, interventional radiology and critical care capacity.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Health and Medical Research Minister Brad Hazzard and Holsworthy state Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons visited Liverpool Hospital on Wednesday last week, meeting staff and patients at the Cancer Therapy Centre and the paediatric unit.
“This is a growing community with growing needs and I’m just thrilled that we’ve been able to make a substantial contribution. It’s three-quarters of $1 billion to the hospital,” Ms Berejiklian said.
Ms Gibbons praised the staff at Liverpool Hospital and said they would get the facilities they needed to continue providing for the community. “It’s not every day we see such a big investment coming into the state, let alone our region,” she said.
