Three truck drivers and a company have been fined $39,000 after an investigation by the NSW Environment Protection Authority into the alleged illegal dumping of construction waste in Sydney’s southwest.

The EPA today confirmed it had issued the fines to Western Civil Group Pty Ltd and three individuals allegedly involved in the dumping of more than 100 tonnes of building and demolition waste containing asbestos on a suburban block in Leppington last year.

It is alleged the material was dumped during the day.

EPA regional waste compliance director Cate Woods said at least four trucks allegedly entered a property on Camden Valley Way without the owner’s permission or knowledge and dumped multiple loads of waste.

“During the EPA’s investigation, CCTV footage was obtained showing four trucks entering the property and depositing waste material,” Ms Woods said.

“Companies and individual drivers who transport waste are responsible for their actions. When they are caught doing the wrong thing they can expect strong enforcement action from the EPA.”

The agency is urging Leppington residents to be vigilant and secure their properties against trespassers.

Western Civil Group Pty Ltd was issued a $15,000 fine and three truck drivers were fined $7500 each for the alleged unlawful transport of waste to the property.

Two of the drivers were issued an additional $750 fine each for allegedly not responding to statutory notices requiring them to provide information and records about the incident.

The material is being removed by a third party.

Members of the public should report any unusual truck movements and make inquiries with council before accepting any fill on their property.
