Middleton Grange resident Jason Golban, 28, found his best friend Bear, an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, five years ago.
“He was the biggest out of the litter and straight away he came up to me,” he said.
“It was just a connection.”
Mr Golban said staffies made the best canine companions because of their smiles and ability to cheer their owners up.
“They’ve got the best smile — like a human smile. He’ll make my day.
“He’s the best dog in the world. He doesn’t chew, he doesn’t bite, he won’t eat his food until I tell him.
“I love dogs more than humans.”
