A revised planning proposal has revealed a vision for the Middleton Grange town centre with fewer dwellings than originally pitched, along with shops, office space and a medical centre.
Key changes have been made to a planning proposal put forward by developer Manta Group last July, including reducing the maximum number of apartments on the proposed site at 60-80 Southern Cross Ave and 45-65 Hall Circuit from 912 to 671.
Other changes include reducing the maximum height of buildings from 12 to eight storeys, a doubling of the amount of public open space to 7600sq m and the construction of a five-storey medical centre.
The developer has also outlined plans for shops, restaurants, office space, a community facility and children’s play areas.
Feedback is now being sought from residents, who can submit comments until December 11.
Planning documents state the amendments are a response to community feedback when the 2018 planning proposal was lodged.
“The development concept has subsequently been further refined to address the concerns and matters raised by the community,” the documents state.
“In particular, the issue of 12 storeys was considered too high. While the planning proposal demonstrated that there was no overshadowing impacts and the heights created a transition to lower-density development, the heights and transitions in the concept have been revisited.”
Many residents at the time opposed the plans and Liverpool Council subsequently withdrew its support for the proposal.
Documents prepared by Pacific Planning for the developer talk up “an accessible and connected suburb” with a “vibrant, mixed-use and walkable town centre”.
One of Liverpool’s newer suburbs, Middleton Grange was created in 2005 when land was rezoned.
