Plans for a major private hospital in Sydney’s south west have been revealed, boasting 155 beds and creating a jobs boom for the region if approved.

A $355m high-rise private hospital could be coming to Sydney’s south west, with developers lodging plans for the facility in the heart of Liverpool.

The proposal, for a 25-storey private hospital a stone’s throw from the public hospital has been submitted to Liverpool City Council.

Planning documents reveal plans for a 91-metre tall building featuring 36,840 sqm of floor space, and 327 parking spaces.

The completed hospital is expected to add 1055 jobs, 11 in the retail stores, 465 in the hospital beds, and 579 across the office/consulting space.

The proposed site for the building, at 61-71 Goulburn St, Liverpool, currently includes three residential flat buildings, and a single-storey home.

According to the planning proposal, the private hospital could include “a comprehensive suite of inpatient and outpatient services, comprising radiology, oncology, chemotherapy, occupation therapy and general medical wards”, and 155 hospital beds once completed.

The proposal notes that the building could be used for flexible consulting, research and training by Western Sydney University, University of New South Wales, and the Ingham

Institute. That would cover 9390sq m of the total floor space.

Liverpool Public Hospital is in the middle of a major redevelopment, expected to be completed by 2026, including a new multistorey car park, and expansion of the emergency department.

The development proposal for the new private hospital includes an artist impression of a

pedestrian footpath connecting to the public.

The council had raised issues on the building potentially casting a shadow over Bigge Park, one of the few large open green spaces in the Liverpool CBD.

The proposal notes that on a worst-case scenario, the winter solstice (the day with the least sunlight of the year), 7.34 per cent of the park would be under its shadow between 9am-12am.

The proposed building is currently in the preliminary community consultation phase, with written submissions invited from the public until 5pm on 1 March 2022.

The developer which submitted the proposal, Sacco Building Group, was contacted by the Liverpool Leader but declined to comment for this article.
