A water play park, 50m indoor pool and sports fields are being considered for the expansion of the highly successful Carnes Hill Community and Recreation Precinct in Liverpool.

Liverpool Council will explore possible facilities for Stage Two of the precinct, with a master plan to be presented to councillors by February 2020.

Two multi-use outdoor basketball courts and two multi-use sports fields are being considered for the precinct, as well as aquatic facilities.

It follows the opening of Stage One of the community hub in 2016.

A library, community centre, recreation centre, skate park, tennis courts, café and a children’s playground formed part of Stage One plans.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the precinct was a “world-class community facility” and the council planned to make it even better.

The facilities are regularly used to host community events, including pop-up move screenings.

“Stage One of the precinct has been overwhelmingly embraced by the community since its opening in 2016. Locals love their beautiful modern library and community groups are making the most of the wonderful facilities throughout the centre.

“Now Stage Two will really expand the precinct in every sense, delivering a wealth of high-quality recreational options, both indoors and outdoors.

“This is a great opportunity to enhance one of Liverpool’s finest community facilities and we want to make sure we get it right.”
