A fifth of all Liverpool childcare service providers are exceeding national quality standards, the latest data reveals.

Centres across NSW were assessed by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority and given a rating in seven key areas, as well as an overall rating.

The categories include children’s health and safety, physical environment, staffing arrangements, relationships with children, and governance and leadership.

Providers were also assessed on educational program and practice, and collaborative partnerships with families and communities.

The data looked at all types of care services, including long daycare, preschools and before and after school hours care services.

Of the 176 providers operating in Liverpool, 34 were found to be exceeding national quality standards.

Prestons World of Learning exceeded benchmarks in all key areas, a result which G8 Education southwest Sydney area manager Rebecca Jobson said reflected the dedication of its staff.

World of Learning is a brand of childcare centre operator G8 Education.

“We are very proud of our rating as an exceeding service. It is a reflection of our commitment to providing the highest care and education to the families within our community each and every day,” Ms Jobson said.

She said the centre’s indoor and outdoor environments had a “home-like feel”, while its programs and resources were underpinned by “the belief that (children) deserve the very best”.

“Our families trust us with the most precious thing in their lives — their children. That is something we do not take lightly. We are very proud of the fact that we are part of a vision that is shaping future generations.”

Mistaken belief that aged care provides constant support must be corrected: commissioner

Of 5486 NSW centres, only 16 were given the highest rating of “excellent” while 1398 were “exceeding” standards and 2433 were meeting the national quality standard.

More than 1300 NSW providers were found to be “working towards” the standard in one or more of seven categories.

Six centres in NSW received the worst overall rating of “significant improvement required”, which means a service poses “significant risk to the safety, health and wellbeing of children”.

The Department of Education, which is the NSW authority charged with inspecting the centres, said preschools which had been classified as “working towards” were still safe.

“A centre awarded the ‘working towards’ rating is a safe education and care program with one or more minor areas for improvement,” a spokesman said.

“Centres that are lacking in certain quality areas are more frequently inspected that other centres. The department will continue to work alongside the service to ensure improvement in relevant areas is achieved.

“The Department of Education’s first priority is the safety, health and wellbeing of children.”
