A warehouse worker, who called his female colleague daily on a private number after she rejected his advances to meet, has been called out in court for his “absolutely creepy behaviour”.

Brayden Nguyen, 23, was convicted and fined $1500 in Liverpool Local Court on Monday, having pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend after he was caught calling his co-worker’s mobile between October last year and March 2024.

Agreed facts state during their first phone call, the victim heard a male voice ask her: “Are you (victim’s name)? I met you last night, can we meet up?”

“When the victim asked who he was, Nguyen would not tell the victim his identity and continued to tell her ‘let’s meet up’ repeatedly and the victim hung up the phone call,” the facts state.

“At times when the victim picked up the phone calls and asked who it was, Nguyen would provide different names such as James or Jonathan.”

The facts state Nguyen would call the victim every day and several times a week at random times, including 10pm, after midnight, 3am or 6am during the “early stages of the incident”.

“This caused significant fears to the victim as she did not know who was calling her on a daily basis,” the facts state.

The victim reported the incident to police in March, when officers discovered she had received a flurry of three calls within a five-minute period last November.

Investigators identified the number as belonging to Nguyen, who confirmed he was behind the calls and “regretted” his actions.

“Nguyen provided excuses, saying he may have dialled the victim’s mobile number accidentally as the victim’s contact name was similar to his girlfriend’s name,” the facts state.

He told police he “might have been drunk when he accidentally pressed the victim’s contact name in his phone”.

“Nguyen admitted on body-worn video that calling the victim nearly every day was excessive and stated he regretted it,” the facts state.

Magistrate Sean Hughes told Nguyen his “absolutely creepy behaviour” had caused the woman “great fear”.

“Calling people at 3am would freak anyone out,” he said.

“Don’t keep calling people who don’t want to be called.”

When Mr Hughes questioned Nguyen on why he continuously called the woman, the 23-year-old said: “I don’t know … I regret it”.

Nguyen was convicted and fined $1500.
