A man has been hospitalised and three vehicles left in pieces following a dramatic short-lived police pursuit at Chester Hill on Tuesday night.

About 6.20pm, South West Metropolitan Region police attempted to stop a tipper truck allegedly bearing stolen registration plates on Campbell Hill Rd.

When the truck failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated but soon terminated because of safety concerns.

A short time later, at the intersection of Wolumba St, the truck allegedly entered the roundabout on the incorrect side and collided head on with a ute and an SUV before rolling onto its side.

The driver, Jason Owen Bennett, allegedly attempted to run from the scene before he was arrested a short distance away.

The 32-year-old Chester Hill man was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and mandatory testing.

The driver of the SUV was also taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries, while the other driver was uninjured.

The man will face Liverpool Court again next week.

Bennett was later released from hospital and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously; driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, driving a conveyance taken without consent of owner, using a class A vehicle with an unauthorised number plate affixed, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen and negligent driving.

On Wednesday Bennett’s case was briefly mentioned at Liverpool Local Court where his legal representative said he was back in hospital and unable to face court due to the side effects of his pain medication.

Police documents allege the tipper truck – a white Isuzu – was stolen and that Bennett also possessed two Suncorp debit cards suspected of being stolen.

It is also alleged Bennett drove the stolen vehicle while disqualified from holding a driver’s licence.

His case was adjourned to the same court on Monday where he is expected to apply for bail.
