A family has been left in mourning after a western Sydney single mother of three children suddenly died while at work.

It was supposed to be like any other day for Glenquarie’s Helen Bettison, 44, as she headed off to make meals for her fellow co-workers in the canteen at hot water specialists, Rheem.

In the morning, she began to complain about chest pains before abruptly collapsing onto the ground.

While the factory had an on-site medical professional who immediately administered first aid and a defibrillator, Ms Bettison couldn’t be revived.

The sudden passing of Ms Bettison has hit the family hard, with her brother Jonathan telling this masthead it came out of nowhere.

“There wasn’t any pre-existing health conditions or anything like that,” Mr Bettison said.

“They had a doctor or some kind of medical professional to support the workers there in the factory. So I guess she had the best chance she possibly could of had. They wacked the defibrillator on and she was unable to be revived.”

The family has rallied around Ms Bettison’s three children as they wait for the coroner’s report into what caused her death.

“Essentially they’ve been at my sister’s house or my dad’s house. We’re taking care of them,” Mr Bettison said.

“Helen was a bit of a battler, just doing everything she could for her children. Her youngest (12-years-old) was really devastated when he was first told.

“Everyone’s sort of doing okay now. I think as the days go past, you wake up and you’re not feeling as sad as you were the day before.”

Described by her loved ones a “genuine person” and a “cheerleader” who always had your back, Mr Bettison says the world has gotten “a little bit dimmer without her”.

Mr Bettison had set up a GoFundMe to help with financials for Helen’s kids, with $12,602 raised so far.

A spokesman for Helen’s employer, Rheem Australia expressed their condolences at her sudden passing.

“Rheem Australia was shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Helen Bettison last Friday,” they said.

“Helen was a valued employee for the past five years, working in our Rydalmere canteen preparing meals and snacks for hundreds of our team members daily.

“We once again express our deepest condolences to her family and friends. We are working with her family to offer support during this very difficult time. She will be sincerely missed by her colleagues and friends at Rheem.”
