A man has been granted bail after he was allegedly caught in possession of cocaine while already on bail for drug offences.
Tauheed Hassan faced Liverpool Local Court today charged with possessing two grams of cocaine.
Police took the 27-year-old from Green Valley into custody on Monday after allegedly discovering the drug in his possession.
The court heard Mr Hassan was already on bail facing police allegations of drug possession and supply at the time of his arrest.
Those charges include two counts of possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug more than small but less than indictable quantity, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, organises/conducts/assists drug premises, enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (m/v).
Mr Hassan’s Legal Aid solicitor today applied for his release on bail, submitting he was a self-employed young man with a limited criminal record.
The prosecution opposed the application, citing an unacceptable risk of committing further offences.
Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim ultimately granted Mr Hassan bail with strict conditions, including regular reporting to Green Valley police and a prohibition on alcohol and drug consumption unless the drugs are prescribed by a doctor.
The matter was adjourned to September 9 at Liverpool Local Court, where Mr Hassan is expected to enter a plea.
