One of Liverpool’s busiest roads will be upgraded after two funding packages worth more than $9 million were announced by the Federal Government.
More than $8 million will be spent to improve the existing signalised intersection of the Hume Hwy, Todman Rd and Governor Macquarie Dr in Warwick Farm.
The upgrade will include a 50m left-turn lane from the Hume Hwy onto Governor Macquarie Drive, a 100m left turn slip lane from Governor Macquarie Dr onto the Hume Hwy and a 45m through lane on the Governor Macquarie Dr approach.
An additional 300m southbound traffic lane on Governor Macquarie Dr will also be constructed.
A second package worth more than $1.4 million will go towards upgrading Governor Macquarie Dr between Newbridge and Alfred roads in Chipping Norton.
Works will include extending the existing right-turn lane by about 80m at the intersection of Newbridge Rd and Governor Macquarie Dr, and reconfiguring the existing carriageway to create a four-lane divided road with on-street parking on both sides between Newbridge and Alfred roads.
Liverpool Council is the proponent for the two projects, which have been funded by the federal government.
Liberal Senator for western Sydney Marise Payne said the funding boost for Fowler will improve safety and traffic flow.
“Governor Macquarie Dr has become a severe bottleneck as motorists seek to avoid passing through the Liverpool city centre,” Senator Payne said.
“These road infrastructure upgrades will help improve motorist safety and ensure better traffic flow for this major thoroughfare.”
