Work is set to start on 2000 additional parking spaces at Edmondson Park railway station, with the community invited to provide feedback on the concept design of a new carpark.
Holsworthy state Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons said feedback was being sought on the first multi-storey carpark, which will provide up to 1000 new spaces at the existing carpark south of the station.
“It is planned that the new facility will provide lift access, CCTV and lighting for improved safety and security, road pavement and pedestrian pathway upgrades for safe and convenient access to and from the station,” Ms Gibbons said.
Transport for NSW is working to finalise plans for the remaining 1000 parking spaces.
Commuters have struggled for years to find parking at the busy station at the booming suburb, with many motorists forced to park wherever they could find room, risking thousands in parking fines.
“The provision for electric vehicle charging spaces, solar power and motorbike parking is also being assessed.”
There are plans to make it an Opal Park&Ride carpark, allowing customers to receive up to 18 hours free parking daily if they travel on public transport using their Opal card.
Ms Gibbons said work was due to start around mid-2020 and is still expected to be completed in mid-2021.
Temporary parking will be provided during the construction of the multi-storey carpark.
Submissions on the concept design will be open from March 27 to April 10 at transport.nsw.gov.au/edmondsonpark.
“It’s important for the community to have their say on this upgrade, even in these times of social distancing, so the engagement will have an online focus,” Ms Gibbons said.
