A man has been charged after a fatal alleged hit and run in Sydney’s southwest after being arrested in dramatic scenes outside his home metres from where his alleged victim lay dead.

A man has been charged after a fatal alleged hit and run in Sydney’s southwest after being arrested in dramatic scenes outside his home metres from where his alleged victim lay dead.
About 3am on Wednesday, emergency services arrived at the intersection of Pritchard St and Hemphill Ave, Mt Pritchard after reports a man had been found with serious injuries by a bystander.
By the time paramedics arrived, the 31 year-old man, from Auburn, had died at the scene.
Police and Crash Investigation Unit officers established a crime scene, before hours later a 55 year-old man was arrested and escorted from his home – less than 10m from the crime scene – and into a police van for further questioning at Fairfield Police Station.
Officers could be seen placing evidence into plastic bags minutes after his arrest, and police later confirmed almost $950,000 had been seized at the home.
It is understood the victim and the alleged driver are not known to each other.
Footage of the moment the man was fatally struck was captured on CCTV footage, as residents claim they heard a “loud bang” in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Video obtained by The Daily Telegraph shows the victim walking along Pritchard St at 2.04am on Wednesday.
Moments later, a black Lexus can be seen crossing the intersection of Hemphill Ave and Pritchard Rd before a bang can be heard.
A black Lexus was moved onto a tow truck on Wednesday morning, with detectives seen inspecting the vehicle and taking pictures of the front wheels.
A Fire and Rescue truck later arrived to remove blood stains off the road.
The man was later charged with dangerous driving occasioning death with drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death, failing to stop & assist after vehicle impact causing death and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.
He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Thursday, and his licence was suspended.
Mount Pritchard resident Nicolas, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years, was also shocked by the death.
“This is a safe place, this has never happened before,” he said.
A resident on Pritchard St said he was awoken after 3am with police swarming his street, while Pritchard St resident Lorna Borsellino, 31, said she woke up after hearing a “loud bang”.
“I woke up to a screech and bang and I came out to the balcony thinking it was my son who was coming home from work,” she said. “It didn’t sound like a bang of two cars hitting.
“This was different.”
Lorna’s husband Mario Borsellino, said he was shocked after wife woke up him from the noise.
“My wife was stressing because she was trying to calculate the hours my son has worked and was scared it was him,” he said.
Ms Borsellino said this was not the first time car crashes had happened on her street.
“We have accidents here all the time,” she said.
