A former member of an organised Asian crime group left a man permanently blind in one eye and with metal screws in his skull during a violent attack outside a karaoke bar.

Chok Seedam, 24, pleaded guilty to reckless grievous bodily harm in company after he and two friends attacked a man inside Bankstown’s Tang Hotspot and Karaoke bar in March 2021.

Documents tendered to Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday reveal a physical fight spilt out of the bar and into the street where Seedam yelled words to the effect of “come on you f***en sick c**t”.

Seedam and another person erupted into a physical melee with the victim and his friends, before the victim fled on foot towards the Bankstown Sports Club.

“Seedam removed his T-shirt while a female onlooker tried to restrain him, taking hold of his arm and yellow for him to stop,” the facts state.

“He ran over to the victim in company of the co-accused and pushed him over into the sidewalk before the co-accused kicked the victim directly in the face, causing him to immediately lose consciousness and collapse face first into the sidewalk.”

Seedam rushed towards the victim and continued to punch him in the face and head while his friend stomped the victim, who lay defenceless and unconscious throughout the attack.

The facts state Seedam fled the scene and at no time attempted to offer help to the victim suffering from significant head injuries.

“The victim underwent surgery for a fractured eye socket and was required to have several metal screws inserted into his skull to hold his eye socket together,” the facts state.

Seedam was arrested in July 2022 after detectives investigated an unrelated matter involving an Asian organised crime network.

Detectives gained access to the mobile phone of a senior member of the crime network and found video of the incident, including a conversation where the member expressed concern about the junior members and their actions – including Seedam.

Seedam also pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a separate charge of affray after he and a group of eight men attacked a member of another group at VIP karaoke bar at Canley Heights in July 2022.

According to police facts, Seedam and his group erupted into a large brawl with another group of men drinking at the bar.

“All members of both groups, including Seedam, were equally involved and violent towards each other. The brawl continued with all participants throwing punches, kicking and stomping on each other,” the facts state.

The brawl lasted about seven minutes as one associate from each group appear to fall to the ground in an unconscious state, while the brawl continued over their bodies.

Seedam and his group later left the bar and found a single member of the other group and “together punched and kicked him while he lay on the ground in the foetal position”.

Seedam lawyer said his client had now cut ties with the group, returned home to live with his mother and is now employed in a retail job while starting his own photography and supplement business.

Magistrate Julie Zaki said Seedam has made an “impressive and genuine attempt to turn his life around” after completing numerous programs, including for drug, alcohol and anger management.

Seedam was convicted and sentenced to two years, 10 months jail to be served by way of an intensive correction order in the community.

Alongside other conditions, Seedam is banned from leaving his place of residence between 10pm and 6pm unless in the company of his mum and must perform 300 hours of community service.
