Plans for a 94-place childcare centre in Moorebank have been lodged with Liverpool Council in a bid to meet growing demand for childcare services in the region.
Sydney-based developer Fortis Development Group is behind the $1.25 million proposal which, if approved, would be located at 7-15 Heathcote Rd and 2 Moorebank Ave, a busy junction close to light industry.
Planning documents lodged last month acknowledged the site’s proximity to industrial uses and major roads “may cause initial concern”, but stated the centre can operate and comply with guidelines “without resulting in any unacceptable impacts” on the neighbourhood or children within the centre.
A two metre-high solid perimeter wall would “effectively shield the centre from the noise and pollution impacts” from nearby traffic and industrial uses, and act as a physical barrier “in the event of inadvertent vehicle collision”.
The documents also point to the “primarily” light industrial nature of nearby industry, meaning they “will not emit any noxious fumes or odours”.
Billed as a “critical social service for the community”, the centre would have 29 carparking spaces — 10 for parents and 19 for staff — with access off Cooper Ave.
Its proposed hours of operation are 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
Residents of nearby properties which may potentially be affected by the proposal have been invited to give feedback.
