THE 48 candidates vying for a seat on the Liverpool Council have begun their campaigns.

Last Wednesday, nominations closed with 21 nominations in the North Ward and 27 in the South ward.

Among them are experienced campaigners, incumbent councillors and new faces, and over the next few weeks they will be trying to convince local voters they’re the individual, or group, with that person’s best interests at heart.

On Saturday, the 10-member “Liverpool Community Independents Team” (LCIT) began their campaign with a bus tour, visiting central Liverpool, Casula and Miller.

The number one position on the LCIT ticket is held by current councillor Peter Harle, who is also in the race for mayor, and who said, if successful, he and his colleagues would make decisions based on what’s best for the city.

“We’re not doing this to further our own political futures,” he said.

Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun has already announced he is not seeking re-election as Liverpool mayor or as a councillor. But incumbent deputy mayor and Liberal, Tony Hadchiti is running for mayor.
