A $56 million housing development has been proposed for Austral, near the future Western Sydney Airport which, if approved, would pave the way for more than 180 new dwellings.
The housing injection is proposed for 171-175 Fourteenth Ave, Austral, which is expected to undergo a massive transformation in anticipation of the Western Sydney Airport in nearby Badgerys Creek and the planned Aerotropolis surrounding the airport.
An application is before the Sydney Western City Planning Panel asking for consent to demolish the existing structures at the site and build six four-storey apartment buildings comprising 182 units.
The majority of those (100) would be two-bedders alongside 58 one-bedroom units, and 24 three-bedroom units, according to planning documents.
The development would be supported by two levels of basement parking with 240 car spaces.
Austral, a semirural suburb, was rezoned by the State Government as part of the South West Priority Growth Area and is expected to experience a surge in population.
At the 2016 Census, there were 3024 people living in the suburb and the median age of residents was 43 years.
In recent times it has been a scene of growth, with housing projects proposed, the official opening of a new school and new church plans approved, with further growth expected when the Western Sydney International Airport opens in 2026, delivering a huge economic boost to the region.
It is expected to support almost 28,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2031, five years after the airport opens.
