THE saying “there is always a rainbow after the rain” rang true on Sunday.
The skies overhead may have been grey for most of the day but the thousands of revellers who descended on Victoria Park in Camperdown were anything but dull.
Colourful characters and rainbow flags filled the park for the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Fair Day festivities.
A host of performers, from Deni Hines to the Harbour City Bears, Mr Boylesque and Courtney Act and Trevor Ashley, kept crowds entertained well into the night.
There was also a record number of stalls to browse through, along with other popular inclusions, such as Doggywood, and family friendly activities, like the Magic Yellow Toy Library Bus and Taronga Zoo exhibition.
Coogee State Liberal MP Bruce Notley-Smith also announced on the day the NSW Legislative Assembly will offer a formal apology for the ill-treatment of the participants of Sydney’s first Mardi Gras, known as the “78ers”.
